English for Tourism I, II & III (MET)
(Mediation in Tourism)
Welcome!
- E-classroom
- Class wiki
- English for Tourism Blog
- Tourism News
I am pleased that you have chosen English for Tourism. You can find basic information about the course here and learn more during our first meeting in class.
We are going to meet in class every week. You are
expected to attend the classes regularly, engage in class activities
and participate in class discussions. You are also expected to do your
homework and fulfill course requirements in time. English for Tourism has an
e-classroom too. You can
find interesting links there, further
exercises, forums and detailed instructions for your homework and
portfolio. (Login instructions will be given in class.)
You are welcome to join me in the e-office (Govorilnica)
over a cup of coffee on the first Monday every month between 20.00 and
21.00 (I'll bring the snacks, you'll bring the coffee ;-) ). Of course you can
come and see me in person in my office too. I have regular office hours
every week. If you prefer to write to me by email, please note that
emails are for short messages only.
Reading is very important when we are learning a
foreign language. You can find links to interesting websites and places
where you can improve your English in my English for Tourism Blog. If you
would like to learn what is going on in the world of tourism, Tourism News is the website you
may
want
to visit. It contains table of contents of various newspaper
travel supplements, travel magazines and journals. The latest tourism
industry news can also be found there.
Course aims
First of all, this course aims to give students an opportunity to
enhance
their English: to develop their competence in listening, reading,
speaking and writing in English, expand their tourism specific
vocabulary as well as increase their fluency and confidence in using
English in professional contexts. Since mediation in tourism aims to
connect cultures, enhancing students' communication skills in
multicultural contexts is an essential part of this course. In order to
achieve these aims both tourism-related topics and topics related to
culture, identity, othering and representations will be discussed.
