Portfolio Checklist


Report 1
Select two or three images of Slovenia from promotional materials for international tourists. Judging from what you have learnt, how successful would these images be in your opinion if they were used for attracting American tourists to Slovenia? Write a short report on your observations (150-200 words).
Report 2
You work for the Slovene Tourism Organization and you are asked to write a short report on how the Australian Tourist Board refreshed their brand. To find this out, visit http://www.tourism.australia.com/Market= ing.asp?sub=3D0291. Your report will help your superiors compare their approach to refreshing a brand to the approaches of others. The report should be 120-150 words in length.
Summary 1
Visist the United Nations Environment Programme’s Sustainable Tourism web page at http://www.uneptie.org/pc/tourism/sust-tourism/home.htm and read the texts about tourism’s socio-cultural and environmental impacts. Use the same procedure as above: read the text, put down the main ideas, organize them and prepare a short presentation of your findings. Using your notes, write the summary of the texts you have read (150-200 words).
Report 3
Choose a tourism concept and look it up in an English dictionary, the Encyclopedia of Tourism, at least two of the tourism dictionaries from the library and a journal article (see Unit 6 for a list of journals). Compare and analyse the definitions and write a short report on your findings. Don’t forget to name your sources of information.
Diagram description
Choose a diagram from a tourism report (follow the links to reports) and write its full description.
Summary 2
Visit Tourism Tasmania’s web page at www.tourismtasmania.com.au/research/ and choose a report. Read it and put down its summary (150-200 words). Make sure you include a diagram and its description.

Report 4
Follow the Internet links below and learn how to evaluate Internet sources of information. Use your newly acquired knowledge to evaluate a web page of your choice. Write a report summing up your findings (120-150 words). Don't forget to add the URL of the page you evaluated.

Summary 3
Read an article from Hospitality Review that is at least 3  pages in length. Write down its summary (150-200 words).
Report 5

Find out which research journals and databases of research article titles and abstracts are available at Turistica’s library. Leaf through a few numbers of each journal to find out what topics they tend to cover and from what aspect(s). Write a report on your observations.
Report 6
Find 3 abstracts of academic journals, study their structure and suggest who would find them useful or interesting. Put down your observations on a separate sheet (120 words).
Summary 4
Select 3 introductions of research articles. Read them and analyze them by answering the same questions as in Unit 7. Write a short summary of each (120 words). Make a list of words or word combinations that you have learnt from the texts and would like to use in the future.
Summary 5
Choose a research article on a topic that you find attractive. Read it and write its summary (200-300 words).
5 articles
A selection of (at least 5) articles of your choice (of which at least 3 should be from academic journals) together with your notes and comments. Articles that are used for writing your assignment do not count in this category. These will be discussed at your oral exam.
Reflections
Your reflections on work done and progress made (at least one: 200-300 words in length). Reflection is a deliberate attempt to examine the learning process and to document your learning. When you reflect on your learning, you are thinking critically about your total learning experience and drawing connections between a body of knowledge and its applications carefully.

The portfolio represents 10% of your final mark.

Full-time students' portfolios have to be handed in by
the deadline set by the teacher.
Portfolios that are handed
in late will be given a lower grade.

Part-time students' portfolios have to be handed in at
the written exam. The part-time student who fails to hand
in her/his portfolio will not be allowed to sit for the exam.
