SpokenWord.org is the place to look for interesting audio files about travel and tourism. Just use their search facility (look for travel or tourism) and you’ll be able to listen to interesting recordings or even download them (only available to registered users).
Thus for example you can listen to Talking Travel: Iceland – more volcano, less stripping or Tourism experts view summer season with cautious optimism as well as lecture videos such as Tourism and National Identity: An Austrian Case Study.

Yesterday, a student of mine said she would love to listen to different accents of English. So if you’d like to listen to people with different accents, here are a few suggestions for you. Have fun!
Helen Needham – BBC Outdoor (Scottish accent)
Craig and Linda – Why we love to travel (Australian accent)
Keeping Eire Lean – BBC (Irish accent)
Travels to the village of Akpabuyo in southern Nigeria – BBC (Nigerian accent)
Alan A. Lew – Travelography (American accent)

English conversations
Filed Under Culture, Foreign language learning, Podcasts | Comments Off
Trying to keep in touch with English? Here’s a website for you. It’s called English conversations. The authors, Aaron Campbell and Mike White, have created a series of podcasts featuring conversations in English. The topics range from food, music, time, people and travel to other cultural topics connected with Japan, India and Thailand. You can both listen to the recordings and read the transcript, which helps a lot with more difficult bits of language. Some grammatical points are also covered. The stories are most interesting and can be searched through categories and tags. I warmly recommend you the site.

London Wine Fair
Filed Under Culture, Foreign language learning, Podcasts, Reading | Comments Off

As you can see above, a wine fair took place in London just a few days ago. You may have also heard that some Slovene wine producers are coming home with medals. Congratulations!
If you are interested in wines, you can improve your English in this area by visiting a few websites. Among my favourites is definitely Asimov’s blog The Pour and the New York Times’ interactive Wines of the Times. The Wine Anorak, an online magazine, has also a lot of useful information, and the Epicurious has a useful wine dictionary. I’m sure they’ll help you brush up your English on the topic of wines.
